National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) 2020

NEET 2020

National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) is a national level medical entrance exam. It is conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA) for MBBS/BDS admission in all MCI/DCI approved colleges in India. Around 12 to 13 lakh candidates expected to apply for NEET 2020, in which 180 questions from physics, chemistry, biology, and botany will be asked. Since NTA came into the picture, many things have changed in NEET 2020 such as mode of exam, its frequency. However, for those who are in class 11 or 12, their focus at the moment should be exam preparation.

NEET 2020 Eligibility Criteria

As per NTA, candidates willing to appear in NEET 2020 should acquire the eligibility mentioned below.

Important Topics in Physics for NEET

It is always wise to pick up topics that carry high weightage.

· Theory-based questions include questions from Modern Physics, Magnetism, Heat and Thermo Dynamics, Oscillations, etc.

· Magnetic Effects of Current covers more marks than any other unit in NEET Physics Section as per previous years’ paper analysis.

· Candidates must make sure that they cover these topics thoroughly to score decently in physics theory.

· As far as Problem solving questions are concerned, one must gauge the formulae first. Thereafter, while solving the problem, check if the similar system of units is there, if not use the conversion rules.

All the topics are mandatory but if are running out of time, then focus on those that carry high weightage marks. Some of them are:

· Electrodynamics

· Wave Optics

· Semiconductors

· Modern Physics

· Rigid Body Dynamics

KTG & Thermodynamics

Important Topics in Chemistry for NEET

Chemistry in NEET is considered to be one of the easiest and scoring sections.

· Pay equal attention to both, Organic and Inorganic Chemistry.

· Be thorough with atomic structure, chemical bonding, Chemical Equilibrium and Acids, P Block elements, etc.

· Apart from this, you must solve the numerical problems regularly in order to perfect problem-solving abilities.

Some of the most important topics in Chemistry section are:

· Chemical Bonding

· Coordination Compounds

· Carbonyl Compounds

· Organic Chemistry-I

Important Topics in Biology for NEET

Biology preparation is mainly segregated in two sections- Botany and Zoology. Over the past few years, biology has seen a rise in difficulty level.

· For Botany, go through the topics related to planning diversity and classification.

· Plant Physiology, however, can be less stressed upon, if you face time constraints.

· for Zoology, focus on Reproductive Health, biodiversity, polygenic inheritance, Mendelian disorders, etc.

Given below are some of the important topics to be covered under this section of NEET.

· Plant Anatomy

· Pollination

· DNA Replication

· Photosynthesis

· PAGE Theory

· Endocrine System

· Excretory and Nervous System

Digestive System

How to prepare for NEET 2020 now?

· So we have two years (just a little less than that). That’s ample time to prepare for NEET UG.

· First thing we should keep in mind is that we must pay attention in class from day 1.

· One mistake that students make is they think they will study everything after class. Instead, they should first pay attention in class, understand everything, and then leave extra learning to self-studies coaching. Syllabus of class 11 and 12 is a quantum leap for many from class 10. So every bit of knowledge you get from various places is valuable.

· Second thing is that NCERT books are the best for NEET preparation.

· All we need to cover in the NEET syllabus is NCERT books of class 11 and 12 physics, chemistry, biology. This is usually the standard textbook in most boards. However if it is not in your board, then you can refer board prescribed books for board exams and NCERT for NEET preparation.

· Third is the NEET 2020 preparation strategy.

What should be your daily time table?

Answer: Your daily time table is dependent on your activities of the day and your sleeping habits. Since you are in class 11, you must be going to school. you can wake up around 4:30 AM and study for one hour before school. After that you can study/coaching for two hours. Then go out for some physical activities. Come back and study again for three hours at least in the night before sleep. Later on, when your school ends, you can put in more hours of self-studies.

What should be your monthly goals?

Answer: To begin with, you should study all that is being taught in school. Whenever a topic gets over, practice its MCQs. There are 59 topics in NEET syllabus, and you need to finish them before December 2019. So divide the number of chapters by the number of days you have left. Say if that comes out to be 2 chapters in a day, then please make sure that you actually cover 2 chapters in a day. This way you can set your monthly targets.

How to do self-assessment?

Taking a shot in light is better than a shot in the dark. By self assessment you will know about your strengths and weaknesses. You can do self assessment by solving MCQs and taking mock tests. After every chapter, solve its MCQs. After completing syllabus take several mock tests and solve past year papers.

How to convert strengths into weaknesses?

Once you know your weaknesses, immediately seek help of a teacher or mentor. Usually the problem lies in grasp of concepts. Once that is clear, you can solve its questions better. That, and continuous practice is the key.
